This 190 SL was Swiss customs cleared on 10th July 1961, registered for the first time on 14th July 1961 and handed over by the Mercedes-Benz agency in Bern on 21st July 1961. The original customs clearance documents and the original service booklet are available. The service booklet would indicate the car to be taken over by its second owner in 1977. After 43 years in the same ownership the Mercedes was taken over by the vendor towards the end of 2020. The coachwork was probably repainted in the original black (DB40 G) many years ago with the chassis and the floor presenting themselves in very good original condition. The interior is in unrestored, original shape showing a period correct patina. The original matching numbers engine is running faultlessly but over the years the sometimes-capricious Solex carburettors were replaced by a set of more reliable Weber carburettors. Following period fashion, the steel rims with their hub caps were replaced by Mercedes aluminium rims providing a more modern appearance to the 190. Any future registration as a Veteran car should be helped by a letter from Mercedes-Benz AG in Schlieren confirming the period correct rims. The very chic cabriolet is in good condition and has probably covered around 100‘000 kilometres. It will be sold with the last Veteran MOT completed in July 2020.
