This W 116 is a Swiss delivered example and was registered for the first time on 15th November 1975. According to the component service manual, a new gearbox was installed in September 1976. The history of this beautiful saloon with its 6.9 litre V8 engine is unfortunately not completely documented. From the information available it can be seen that, in 1983, the car, then showing 142’000 kilometres, was owned by a lady from the Canton Schwyz. She transferred the car to the Canton Bern in 1984 and on the 9th May 1985 finally had it de-registered. The 450 SEL was then mostly stationary until in September 2014, now showing 147’000 kilometres, it was acquired by an enthusiast who immediately started a comprehensive restoration on this impressive saloon. The coachwork was restored and repainted in its original colour and equipped with new chrome embellishments. The leather interior was renewed. The car received new brake discs, brake pads, brake lines, a new exhaust system, new fuel pumps, a new alternator etc. With now showing roughly 149’000 kilometres, the Mercedes is in good to very good condition and will be sold with the last Veteran MOT completed in May 2022.
